Abstract

918,828. Processing light-sensitive sheets. RITZERFELD, W., and RITZERFELD, G. Aug. 16, 1961 [Aug. 26, 1960; July 5, 1961 (2)], No. 29517/61. Class 98 (2). A continuous treatment device for lightsensitive sheets has means for guiding the sheet through a container of treatment liquid, a thermostatically controllable heating device below the guides, a supply container for the liquid above the guides, and a device for controlling the flow of liquid from the supply container to maintain a constant liquid level in the treatment container. In the arrangement shown, the developer liquid is contained in a bath 8, which can be slid laterally out of the main housing formed by a base 1 and a removable hood 7. The light-sensitive sheet is conveyed through the bath between two gridlike guiding members 9, 10. The upper guide 10 is fixed to the bottom of a closed air-tight container 11 which holds a supply of developer liquid 12. This liquid flows into the bath through an opening 41, controlled by a setting- screw 14, in a level-controlling device 13, which maintains, the liquid level B-C in the bath constant during the processing procedure. A resistance heater 42 and thermostat 43 enable the liquid to be maintained at a predetermined temperature. In operation, an exposed lightsensitive sheet 45 is fed in on table 19, layered side up, and passed between inlet rollers 25, 26 into the developing bath. Meanwhile an ink sheet 46 with a folded-over front edge 47 is placed on a table 20. The developed sheet 45 engages in the folded-over edge of sheet 46, pushing the latter along with it. The two together pass between rollers 27, 28, and out of the apparatus, where they are then separated by hand. The ink sheet 46 now has an imagepattern adhering to it from sheet 45. The ink sheet 46 is once more placed on table 20, a paper sheet 55 on table 21, and the two passed again in contact between rollers 27, 28, when the paper sheet has transferred thereto an image from the ink sheet 46. In the modification of Figs 3 and 4 (not shown), two heating elements are provided, which are connected in parallel so as to bring the liquid up to the required temperature quickly, and then automatically switched over to series connection for maintenance at a lower heating power.
