Abstract
943,653. Photographic processing apparatus. KODAK Ltd. Dec. 19,1960 [Dec.17, 1959],No. 43624/60. Heading G2A. A photographic processing apparatus comprises one or more tanks for processing solutions, rollers partly immersed therein which co-operate with further rollers for advancing the material to be processed through the apparatus, a constant level device in each tank and a discharge member with a movable shut-off member which is actuated by a device in the path of the material so that the member is opened upon introduction of the material to the apparatus and closed upon egress of the material from the apparatus. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 a sheet of photographic material P is fed through the apparatus by means of motor driven rollers 21, 22 of which rollers 21 dip into three tanks of processing solutions S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>2</SP>, S<SP>3</SP> and apply the solutions to the film. One or more of the solutions may be heated by thermostatically controlled heaters 71. The tanks are provided with narrow discharge orifices each having a movable shut off member operated by an electromagnet controlled by switches 69, 70 which are closed by the material when it is fed through the apparatus. The orifices may be provided with adjustable values to vary the flow through them. The solution in each tank is kept at a constant level by the means shown in Fig. 3 which consist of a bottle of the particular solution which has a capsule 44 with perforation 45 normally blocked by a valve 47 controlled by spring 48. However, when the bottle is inverted and placed in the tank a projection 52 on the bottom of the tank engages the rod 51 of the valve and opens it so that the solution in the tank is kept at the level of the uppermost perforation in the capsule. Instead of or in addition to switches 69, 70 other switches may be provided for each tank these switches being operated by rollers 21 which are so held in slots in their supports that when the material P passes over them they move downwards and operate the switches. Other larger orifices may be provided in each tank for emptying it quickly.
