Abstract
739,921. Bottling. MOJONNIER, A. B. Jan. 18, 1954, No. 1495/54. Class 125 (2). In apparatus for filling containers with liquids, a constant liquid level is maintained in a storage tank 14 and a solenoid operated valve 46 in the filling head 12 is opened for a predetermined time so as to discharge a predetermined quantity of liquid into the container. The tank 14 is vertically adjustable on a support 18 carried by a table (not shown) on which the container to be filled stands. The solenoid 54 is energized by a timer which is brought into operation either manually or by a trip actuated by a container in filling position. The tank 14 has a cover 23 carrying a pipe 27 which communicates through a conduit (not shown) with a liquid supply tank. The lower end of the pipe 27 is closed by a disc valve 26 which is held closed by a float 24 and is allowed to open when the liquid level and the float descend. The downward movement of the float is limited by a cage 38. The filling heads 12 are interchangeable.. A plurality of filling heads may be provided, each container being filled in series from all the heads. In modifications, the liquid level in the storage tank may be detected by a float or electrodes which control a valve in the conduit joining the supply tank to the storage tank so as to maintain a constant level in the latter. The float may have an upper plugged opening for the insertion of weighting material to vary the maintained liquid level.
