Abstract

1367814 Dispensing viscous liquids DAGMA GmbH & CO DEUTSCHE AUTOMATEN-UND GETRANKE-MASCHINEN 24 July 1972 [24 July 1971 5 Feb 1972] 34549/72 Heading T In a method and apparatus for dispensing viscous liquid, e.g. sugar-rich syrup, in a drink vending machine, a container 1 is filled with the liquid, after removing a cam inlet sealing stopper 6, at atmospheric pressure. On lifting housing lid 19, valve 12 in a vent tube 11 entering the liquid is closed so that liquid only rises a small amount into the bottom 13 of tube 11. On closing inlet 23 and the lid, valve 12 is opened to release the increased pressure in tube 11 so that a negative pressure is produced above the liquid in container 1. On energizing solenoid 10 above the container armature 9, connected to ball or cone valve 7 by rod 8 passing along the tube 11, opens valve 7 to discharge liquid at 3, the liquid in tube 11 falling to the bottom of the tube so that bubbles of air rise to the surface of the liquid in container 1. By suitable dimensioning or tilting of tube 11, air bubbles of such a size are produced that during the time taken to rise to the surface they become saturated with moisture. The construction of valve 7, 8, 9, the positioning of solenoid 10 to stop heating of the liquid, the negative pressure above the container liquid and the dimensioning or positioning of the ventilating tube 11 to produce bubbles which will not reduce the humidity above the container liquid, are stated to reduce the drying out and formation of deposits in the apparatus. Lid 19 may be dispensed with and valve 12 replaced by a normally closed flap valve which opens under reduced pressure in tube 11. Ball valve 7 may be rotatably connected to rod 8, and rod 7 pass through a guide at the bottom of tube 11 keeping valve 7 away from the container walls when open.
