Abstract

1,019,014. Drying photographic film. EASTMAN KODAK CO. Oct. 26, 1962 [Oct. 26, 1961], No. 40676/62. Heading F4G. [Also in Division G2] Apparatus for processing a moving strip of heat-developable photographic material which releases free moisture on heating comprises a body over which the strip is guided, means for maintaining the body at a raised temperature, e.g. of 225‹ to 400‹ F., and recesses formed in the surface of the body terminating short of its margins. As shown, a part cylindrical stationary metal block 1 to which is bolted a plate 7 supporting electrical heaters 5 is provided with recesses 12 extending parallel to the cylinder axis and interconnected by circumferential passages 15. The strip is conveyed emulsion side upwards over the curved surface of the block and the moisture emitted into the recesses is driven rearwardly by its vapour pressure. An endless conveyer belt, e.g. of transparent polyester (Fig. 5, not shown), may be provided to feed the strip across the heated curved surface and if desired to prevent escape of moisture needed for development. The developed strip leaves the apparatus dry.
