Abstract

1422848 Drying photographic materials MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 10 May 1973 [10 May 1972] 22441/73 Heading F4G Photographic materials are dried by irradiating them with infra-red radiation and subjecting them to an unheated air flow so that the film does not undergo any substantial temperature increase. In the embodiment shown the materials, such as films, are passed between chambers B, B1 by rolls C, C1 and infra-red lamps E, E1 located at a distance of between 1 and 3 cm. from the materials and provided with reflectors R, R1 which may be U-shaped or semi-elliptical, are located on each side of the materials. Air from sources D, D1 is passed on to each side of the materials and baffles DF, DF1 are provided to shield the rolls C, C1. In further embodiments the air is directed around the reflectors R, R1 by means of baffles or is directed close to the rolls to cool them. The temperature increase of the material is stated to be no more than between 5-10‹ C.
