The Specification relates to the arrangement of Specification 765,839. Claim is made to a straight bar full-fashioned knitting machine having a series of spring beard needles, yarnmeasuring sinkers, and a mechanism for setting up, folding and topping on to the needles a welt portion of fabric characterized by a series of welt instrumentalities to receive and draw off from the needles an initial course of welt loops, a welt wire, means for moving the welt wire against the welt fabric as it is knitted, means for relatively moving the welt instrumentalities and welt wire to form a fold of welt fabric, and means acting during the subsequent knitting of the welt to withdraw the welt wire from the fabric fold.
