Abstract

765,197. Combustion apparatus. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AKT.- GES. Nov. 6, 1953 [Nov. 13, 1952; May 13, 1953; Aug. 8, 1953], No. 30728/53. Class 51 (1). In a liquid-fuel fired combustion apparatus air is supplied from an annular channel 3, Fig. 1, through two channels 4 tangentially to the brick-lined combustion chamber 9 whilst fuel, e.g. an oil residue, is introduced through a pipe 7. Liquid fuel may be introduced through a pipe 8 situated in a channel 4 whilst a supply of fuel gas to plots 5 is effected through an annular channel 6. Finely-divided coal dust may be introduced through a pipe 10. The chamber 9 may occupy a horizontal or inclined position. In the apparatus of Figs. 3, 4 part of the combustion air 'is supplied through tangentially arranged channels 4 from an annular channel 3 whilst the remainder is introduced through an annular space 6 in an axial direction. Liquid fuel is introduced through a pipe 7 whilst fuel gas, if any, is fed via a slot 5. Axially displaceable pipes 10, 12 introduce coal dust and carrier air respectively, the latter being tapped from the main combustion air feed. The chamber 9 may be directly attached to a furnace 11 which may be a rotary tube furnace or a melting furnace. The apparatus may be used for heating boilers and leather waste or similar pulverizable refuse may be burnt instead of coal dust. Combustible gas, which may be collected in gas holders for use elsewhere, may be produced in the apparatus by limiting the supply of air and introducing, if necessary, a supply of steam.
