Abstract

764,909. Two-part couplings. YOUNG, S. G. Aug. 30, 1954 [May 29, 1953], No. 15096/53. Class 38 (1). The cover 2 (Fig. 2, Provisional) of a plug has an annular lip 5 internally screw-threaded for engagement with the base 1 and inwardly of the lip there is provided an annular toothed projection 8 which bears on a cable 6 at its point of entry into the base so as to kink the cable into a recess 9 in the base to relieve strain on the terminals. Alternatively the cover may have a central internally threaded boss co-operating with a stud on the base, the lip 5 being omitted. Fig. 3 shows a modification of the first construction wherein the lip 5<SP>11</SP> and projection 8<SP>11</SP> are of equal depth and cause the cable to be kinked both into the recess 9<SP>11</SP> and into the recess 7<SP>11</SP> in the cover, projection 8<SP>11</SP> in this case not being toothed. The base 1<SP>11</SP> has a transverse bridge 13<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 4, formed with bores 14<SP>11</SP> for the leads which are trapped therein by and at the same time connected to the plug pins 15<SP>11</SP> which screw into the base. Fig. 6 shows a further modification wherein the base 21 and cover 22 are screw-threaded as in the previous embodiment but the cable 26 is gripped between a hollow portion 29 of the base and a central projection 28 on the cover guided between a pair of semi-circular members. 30 integral with the base. The peripheral screw-threads may be omitted and the projection 28 adapted to screw into the members 30 (Fig. 9, not shown). Alternatively the projection may be hollow and engage the exterior of members 30, Fig. 10 (not shown).
