Abstract

763,998. Gear pumps. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. May 20, 1955 [May 21, 1954], No. 15004/54. Class 110 (2). The gears of a gear pump are journalled in one-piece bearing plates 9, 9a which have a figure of eight configuration, the plate 9 being urged against the gears by fluid fed into chambers 11, 12. The chambers 11, 12 communicate with the inlet and the outlet of the pump respectively and are separated from one another by a reinforced sealing member 15 which is internally supported by plates 16, 17. The plates 16, 17 are provided with ports 18, 19 adjacent the pump inlet and outlet ports respectively to ensure equalization of the pressure on both sides of the plates, the inner face of each bushing 9, 9a being cut away to permit such communication (see Fig. 5, not shown). The bearing bushes are provided with grooves 21 (see Fig. 4, not shown) to port the fluid from the journals back to the pump inlet. Specification 659,600 is referred to.
