1,214,723. Rotary positive-displacement pumps. CHANDLER EVANS Inc. Aug. 8, 1968 [Aug.9, 1967], No.38026/68. Heading F1F. A gear pump has pressure-and-spring-loaded sealing-elements 20--23 abutting gears 8, 9, 10 adjacent outlets 17, 19 for the working fluid, the elements 20, 22 being pivotable relative to the elements associated therewith, which contain passageways 57, 60 to transmit the pressure at the outlets to chambers 58, 61 partially defined by pistons 44, 55, respectively. Chambers 56, 59 between adjacent elements are sealed by pressure-loaded endmembers 62, 63 abutting the ends of the gears 8, 9 and the elements 20, 21, and similar members (66, 67), Fig. 3 (not shown), abutting the ends of the gears 9, 10 and the elements 22, 23. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the parts of the elements 21, 23 in contact with the gear 9 are replaced by pivotable elements (85, 86), which are generally similar to the elements 20, 22, all of the elements being individually spring-loaded.
