Class 64(3) A liquid fuel heating apparatus comprises a vertical, cylindrical casing a having an inlet b and an outlet c for the fuel to be heated, together with a steam header d which is divided into two compartments e and f by the partition g, the steam inlet h communicating with e and the steam outlet i with f. An assembly of vertical tubes is mounted in the casing, each comprising an inner tube k open at both ends and in communication with the compartment e of the steam header at its lower end, and an outer tube j which is closed at its upper end and is in communication with the compartment f of the steam header at its lower end. When the device is in operation, steam flows upwards through each inner tube and downwards through the annular space between the inner and outer tubes, while the fuel to be heated flows over the outer tubes, being caused to take a zig-zag path by means of a series of baffles n and o.
