Abstract
714,395. Tubular heat - exchangers. SPANNER BOILERS, Ltd. Sept. 22, 1952, No. 23708/52. Class 64(3) In a tubular heat-exchanger, e.g. a water heater, having a bundle of helically grooved tubes 4 carrying a heating gas, surrounded by a shell 1 and extending between tube plates 2, 3, the wall 10 of the gas outlet header 8 opposite to and spaced from the tube plate 2 is provided with perforations 11, one for each tube and each located opposite a tube, all the perforations normally being covered by a single cover plate 12 which is removable to expose the ends of the tubes for cleaning purposes. Preferably, as shown, the cover plate 12 is carried on one or a plurality of tubular studs 14 (see Fig. 5) each of which extends from the perforated plate 10 in alignment with a tube. Caps 13 are screwed on to the tubular studs 14 and serve to clamp the cover plate 12 in position against the perforated plate 12 and also to close the ends of the tubular studs.
