Abstract
821,003. Heat exchangers. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION: July 9 1957 [Nov. 19, 1956], No. 21690/57. Class 64(1) A heat exchanger includes a contacting chamber in which an upwardly flowing gas is heated or cooled by contact with a descending liquid which has been dispersed by a plurality of perforate members (Figs. 2, 3 and 4, not shown) into a plurality of droplets. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the liquid passes successively through two contacting chambers 10, 12 each having inlet and outlet ports for a gas. A trap 32 is provided between the chambers to prevent the passage of gas from one chamber to the other. Interposed in the trap is a tank 34 in which any entrained gas from the chamber 10 is separated out, such gas being returned to the chamber 10 by a pump 36.
