Abstract
1288653 Cooling towers FLUOR PRODUCTS CO Inc 30 Sept 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 46512/70 Heading F4K Contact heat exchange units 13 are circularly arranged in spaced relation at the base of a draft evaporative cooling tower and the space between adjacent units is divided by a partiton 16 into inlet and outlet plenum chambers 14a 14b respectively for fan-impelled streams of cooling air flowing through the heat exchange units in the generally circumferential direction indicated by arrow 15 whence the air exhausts to the plenum chambers 14b from which it takes a spirally upward course through the tower stack 11. Air flow into the plenum chambers 14a is by fans 30 and the air flow may be guided in these chambers by vanes or adjustable dampers (44, Fig. 7 and 75, Fig. 8). The heat exchange units 13 are horizontally elongated and comprise conventional packings over which water falls as dispersed droplets in contact with the air stream flowing through the unit. Drift eliminators (58, Fig. 4) are located at the air exit side of each heat exchange unit. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,207,079.
