Abstract
918,353. Drying veneers. IKEUCHI, K. March 26, 1959 [Jan. 29, 1959], No. 10710/59. Class 34 (2). A device for drying veneers has a central path for heating fluid comprising two series of parallel passages intersecting at right-angles, and an inlet and an outlet, and on at least one side of the central path an exhaust path for moisture evaporated from the veneer comprising a plurality of open-ended passages and a plurality of apertures extending perpendicular to these passages and opening into a face of the device. Veneers &c. are dried between devices each comprising a plate heated by the flow of a heating fluid from an inlet pipe 6, Fig. 3, to an outlet pipe 7 via a central path formed by two series of parallel passages 5 intersecting at rightangles and on at least one side of the central path an exhaust path for moisture evaporated from the veneer comprising open-ended passages 9 intersecting at right-angles having spaced apertures 10 extending into the surface or surfaces of the plate. In a further embodiment each device comprises a heating plate 12, Fig. 6, in which the path for heating fluid is formed and a separate table 11 in which the exhaust path and apertures 10 are formed, the exhaust path either being formed of grooves 13 in one face in contact with the plate or with exhaust passages. In operation, veneer sheets and devices alternate in a stack which is pressed between upper and lower presses.
