Abstract

642,937. Filters. FRAM CORPORATION. June 25, 1948, No. 17112. [Class 46] A cell type filter element comprises a stack of sheet members 26, Fig. 2, of identical configuration, each member having an opening 28 for registering with a like opening in the next member, a web portion 29 radiating from the opening 28 throughout substantially 180 degrees of arc from the centre of the opening to the periphery of the element, and a portion 30 of smaller radius on the opposite side of the opening to enclose the opening, adjacent members being oppositely disposed to form cells 35, Fig. 1, between like positioned members on opposite sides of the axis of the element and the portions surrounding the openings overlapping to provide the cell spacing. The sheet members are formed from paper, chipboard, cardboard or a felted mass or the like having a sufficient rigidity to preserve the cell spacing. The rectangular shape of the openings 28 facilitates alignment of the members. Holes 36 and slots 37 may be provided so that rods 41 may be inserted to clamp the members together between end plates 39 in a casing 10. and reinforcing plates 50 may be provided at each end to prevent expansion of the stack due to absorption of liquid.
