Abstract

770,439. Filters. GENERAL MOTORS, Ltd. Nov. 10, 1954 [Jan. 30, 1954], No. 2852/54. Class 46. [Also in Group XXVIII] An oil filter element is formed by folding a continuous web 11, Fig. 1, of filter material e.g., porous resin impregnated paper along lateral ribs 14, 14a into a stack of contiguous sections, at least each alternate section having upstanding longitudinal ribs 12, 13 forming a plurality of channels 17a, 18, Fig. 5, between adjacent sections and each channel being open at one end only and those on each side of a section being open at opposite ends. As shown each section has ribs, those of one section e.g., ribs 12 being offset with respect to the ribs 13 of an adjacent section. Pairs of sections are secured together by adhesive along their longitudinal edges 15, 16 which are raised up from the general plane of the section, and dimples 17 serve to space adjacent pairs of the so connected sections. The stack so formed is located in a housing having an inlet and outlet.
