Abstract

PURPOSE:To allow a flexible sheet to flexibly deform in connection with the thickness variation of an electrode to keep sealing capability by fixing a thin flexible sheet to the whole periphery of a separator having passages through which different gases flow on both side, and placing the free edge of the separator on the surface of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:A separator 10 is formed by stacking corrugate plates 12, 13 having irregular surface. Each one side of thin flexible sheets 14a, 14b each of which is formed in a endless belt form by uniformly sealing the periphery and folding in two is stacked on each side of the periphery of a center plate 11, and then bonded over the whole periphery. The free ends of the sheets 14a, 14b are placed on the peripheries of the cathode 2 and anode 3, and the peripheries of the electrodes are wrapped with the sheets 14a, 14b. Even if the thickness of the electrode is varied, the flexible sheet in the wet sealing part, which is only stacked on the electrode, freely causes displacement to follow the thickness variation of the electrode.
