Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase cell performance by partitioning rigid frames installed in the surroundings of a stack with projections of a carbon plate and gaskets fixed to the tapered surfaces of the carbon plate, and pressing the end of the partition of a manifold against the sealant arranged at the edge of each projection. CONSTITUTION:A cell stack 1 is formed by mutually stacking cells and gas separators, and a carbon plate 2 is inserted in the center of the stack to divide the stack into two, then the stack is fastened between the upper and lower end plates 3, 3. The carbon plate 2 has projections 4 so as to protrude from the surroundings of the stack, and gaskets 7 are fixed in two lines of grooves formed on both sides of the tapered surface of each projections. A rigid frame 8 which is in contact with each surroundings of the cell stack 1 is insulated from the cell stack 1 through a sealant 9 and from the projection 4 of the carbon plate 2 through the gasket 7.
