Abstract

763,073. Magnetrons. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 26, 1953 [Oct. 28, 1952], No. 29560/53. Class 39(1). In a magnetron with coaxial anode and cathode, one surrounding the other, the surface of one member provides, disposed regularly around its cross-sectional perimeter, a plurality of discrete portions spaced closer to the other member than the remaining portions. Active areas are separated by non-resonant spaces. In effect the magnetron is of the multi-anode segment type. The resonant circuit is connected between the anode and the cathode. The cathode and anode may have corresponding regular polygonal cross-sections, as Fig. 3, where both the cathode 2 and anode 3 are triangular, or the cathode may be circular and the anode polygonal, as Fig. 2(c), where the anode 3a has indented portions opposite the cathode. Other arrangements are shown in Figs. 4 and 5. In all these cases the cathode may surround the anode. The area of the cathode that is provided with an emissive coating may be limited in the case where as described in Specification 703,656 voltage tuning is desired.
