Abstract

762,785. Aircraft framework. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. May 13, 1955 [Feb. 15, 1954], No. 4436/54. Class 4. [Also in Group XXVI] The fuselage of a twin-engined jetpropelled aircraft includes a number of transverse frames each shaped with re-entrant portions of its opposite sides curved convexly inwards with the engines mounted on either side of the fuselage frames partly within the re-entrant portions. The fuselage comprises upper and lower longerons 1 and 2 and longitudinally spaced frames each comprising a top piece 3 secured to longeron 1 and a plate 4 having flanges secured to longerons 1 and 2 and sides of re-entrant shape as shown at 5. The bottom of the fuselage is formed as a bomb-bay 6 closed by doors 7. The wings comprise two main spars 10 which are curved upwardly within the fuselage above the bomb-bay and connected together. Each engine 13 is carried by a mounting structure 16, 17 pivotally connected to the respective wing at 15 and attached to the engine at 18 and 19 whereby the engine may be swung outwardly from the re-entrant portion 5 for easy removal by a sling attached to slinging points 24. A releasable connection 20, 21 is provided between the fuselage and the engine and a conduit 22 contains easily detachable fuel and electrical connections. A hinged fairing 26 completes the outer profile between the fuselage and the respective wing.
