Abstract

Class 39(3) A boiler for supplying steam comprises three electrodes 7 mounted on but insulated from a plate 8 to which is secured a tube 12 slidable in a sleeve 14, the assembly being movable vertically by the movement of a rod 18 and a closure member 21 which seals a bellows 20. Each of the electrodes consists of a piece of sheet metal formed into sector-shaped, inverted, box-like member open at the bottom, so that the outer contour of the three assembled electrodes forms the shape of a cylinder, the depth of which is considerably less than its diameter. When the boiler operates at normal pressure, the steam. pressure on the member 21 is balanced by adjustable loading means 23, 25 and by the weight of the electrode assembly. Lowering or raising of pressure within the boiler due to increase or decrease of the delivery of steam causes a. corresponding lowering or raising of the electrodes and hence regulation of the steam generation. The bellows may be of metal, rubber or a sythetic resin material, and the water level V is maintained by an automatic feed water supply. The top of the boiler together with the electrodes and their actuating means is removable.
