Class 64 (i) A water boiler comprises a closed tank 4 containing a firebox 5 the upper horizontal wall 13 of which is spaced from that 10 of the tank, a chimney 12 extening from the horizontal wall 13 to the atmosphere and wholly or partly supporting the firebox 5, a constantly open charging aperture 14 in the firebox for gravitational fuel feeding from above, and a water inlet 9 and outlet 18 at low and high levels respectively in the tank. A removable conical hopper 15 is inserted in the aperture 14, the wall of which also helps to support the firebox 5. The lower end of the chimney may, as shown, be surrounded by a water jacket 20.
