Class 110(3) The invention relates to a divided strengthening ring for supporting an annular set of blades of a radial flow turbine or compressor in which the blades 1 are formed with radially-outwardly projecting hookshaped ends 3 for engaging a corresponding groove of the strengthening ring. The strengthening ring comprises a comparatively weak annular member 4 which surrounds and engages the hooked ends of the blades, and a stronger member 5 formed at its side facing the hooked blade ends with two concentric flanges 6, 7 for engaging those portions of the blade ends not engaged by the weak annular member, the outer flange 6 being joined by welding 8 to the weak member. The weak member 4, of the strengthening ring may be mounted by heating it and allowing it to shrink around the hooked blade ends, the blades being held in the clamping device in which they were held during the shaping of the blade roots by a turning operation.
