Abstract
646,491. Turbine blades. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C. (Svenska Turbinfabriks Aktiebolaget Ljungstrom.). July 18, 1944, No. 13729. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 18, 1946.]. [Class 110(iii)] '[Also in Group XXII] Blade rings for radial flow elastic fluid turbines are manufactured by connecting together the roots of adjacent blades, preferably in groups, by welding, the roots being further connected to the supporting ring or rings by welding. A rib 7, Fig. 3, is formed on one or both faces of a blade root 2 by pressing or machining. During welding, the rib or ribs flow outwards to seal the joint, the surfaces 5 of adjacent roots consequently abutting. After a number of blades have been welded together, the blade roots are shaped by turning or other means. Instead of a rib, a wire 8, Fig. 4, may be fastened to the root, which, in this case, may be finished to shape before welding. In welding together a group of blades an electrical short-circuiting bar 10, Fig. 7, controls the length of the group- Specifications 560,620 and 582,563 are referred to.
