Abstract

Turbines.-Turbine blade segments are formed by assembling blade lengths and distance-pieces in a holder, welding them together, building up metal at the ends of the blades and machining the built-up metal. For a radial-flow segment, distance-pieces, shaped as shown in Fig. 1, are placed with lugs 24 in notches in two rings 27, Fig. 4, the blades being placed between the distance-pieces and the whole secured by plates 30 and metal 32 is built up at the ends. The segment is removed by cutting through the lugs 24, and the built-up metal is machined to the form shown in dotted lines. A similar method for axial-flow segments is described.
