603,044. Making turbine blades. SVENSKA TURBINFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTROM. Nov. 16, 1945, No. 30863. Convention date, Feb. 22. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XXVI] Uniting by fusion.-Axial flow turbine and compressor blades are composed of solid root portions and hollow blade portions welded together. Hollow blades 4, Fig. 1, may each be formed of a single sheet bent round or two sheets, the joints being welded. The sheets may taper towards the blade tips. The root portions 2 at their meeting surfaces 3 may be recessed to correspond with the hollow of the blades to facilitate welding. Cooling fluid may be introduced to the blade hollows through passages such as 10. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the form shown in Fig. 7 (Cancelled), in which the hollow blade 4 covers the stump of the root portion and is secured by spot-welding 14 to it. The root portions, assembled to form a complete ring, are secured to a rotor 1 by welding material 13. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
