Abstract
833,072. Turbines. INTERNATIONAL STAL CO. A.B. July 18, 1957 [Sept. 29, 1956], No. 2284l/57 Class 110 (3). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] To allow differential expansion with increasing temperature between rings 1, 2 in torque transmitting engagement with each other or between the members which the rings carry, as in a steam or gas turbine, the ring 1 is formed with axial projections 3 and an annular groove 5, Figs. 1, 2, or 10, Fig. 4, axial projections 4 on the ring 2 interdigitating between the projections 3 and either a wire 7, Fig. 2, lying in the groove 5 and a similar groove 6 in the projections 4, or a radial rim 12, Fig. 4, carried by the ring 2, engaging in the groove 10. In the event of a member attached to one of the rings 1, 2 expanding &c. the radius of that end of the ring to which the member is attached is increased so that the ring assumes a truncated cone shape, the projections 3 &c. pivoting about the wire &c. 7. A ring spring 8, Fig. 2, may centre the rings 1, 2 with respect to each other and act as a packing to prevent the escape of steam &c. Similarly, a ring 11, Fig. 4, supporting the rim 12, may be provided with a flange 14 for the same purpose.
