Abstract

[Class 110(iii] In a means for securing together two or more blade-carrying discs of a turbine rotor, adjacent faces of adjacent discs are formed with axially extending rings; the rings are secured together by a connecting member having annular grooves which receive projecting portions of the rings, or alternatively one ring is annularly grooved to receive the other ring. The parts are held together by radially disposed taper pins. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the rings 5 on adjacent rotor discs 1 extend into grooves defined by the inner and outer flanges 6, 7 of a connecting member. The latter is conveniently made in two halves which are welded together along a peripheral joint 12 after the taper pins 8 have been inserted. The taper pins are held in place by forked locking collars 9. The end discs are secured to extensions 2 of the main shaft by connecting rings 10. Concentricity of the rotor discs and shaft extensions is maintained by spigots 3. To permit thermal expansion, axial and radial clearances are provided between the disc ,rings and the connecting members. In an alternative construction, Fig. 2 (not shown), separate connecting members are eliminated; one disc of a two-stage rotor has an axially extending ring which projects into an annular groove defined by inner 'and outer flanges formed on the other disc. An annular ledge on the latter disc prevents inward movement of the taper pins. Outward movement of the pins is prevented by plugs which overlie the pins and are screwed into a ring attached to the outer flange. The rotor is attached to the rotor shaft at one end only, the method of attachment being similar to that shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings of the parent Specification. There may be more than two discs.
