Abstract

776,988. Turbines. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1955 [Oct. 7, 1954], No. 28934/54. Class 110 (3). Means for fixing nozzles in a turbine casing comprises a nozzle ring 2 having inner and outer peripheries 4, 5 constituting oppositely directed conical surfaces with the inner surface 4 tapering toward the inlet side of the nozzle and located in a corresponding shaped recess 6 in the turbine casing 1, a retaining ring 7 having inwardly tapering faces 8, 9, with a face 8 tapered at an angle to correspond and mate with the outer periphery of the nozzle ring 2 and a plurality of location blocks 10 each having a tapered face in contact with the retaining ring and an opposite face in contact with an abutment 11 on the casing and radially disposed screw means 12 for forcing the blocks radially outward to tighten the retaining ring against the nozzle ring. The nozzle and retaining rings are conveniently made in semi-circular segments for ease of assembly, but either of these rings may be made of three or more segments. The clearance holes through the blocks 10 are tapped at 13 to facilitate removal. In a modification, the retaining ring is extended axially and used to support an inter-stage set of fixed blades.
