Abstract
1,164,725. Pipe joints. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. 26 Sept., 1967 [20 Oct., 1966], No. 43842/67. Heading F2G. [Also in Division F1] A telescopic conduit connected between an I.C. engine and an exhaust gas turbine comprises two telescoping pipes 1, 2 with two sets of spaced-apart sealing elements 5 sealing the radial gap therebetween, an inlet 7a leading through the pipe 1 to allow the space 7 between the sets of sealing elements to be charged with gas under pressure. The rings 5 are preferably split radially and each ring may consist of a pair of rings with their radial splits angularly offset. The inlet 7a may be connected to the scavenging air conduit. The sealing rings may be replaced by plastics sealing elements or by labyrinth seals.
