Abstract

758,272. Roller conveyers. STEVENSON, C. H. Feb. 25, 1954, No. 5554/54. Class 78 (1). A roller conveyer 273 is provided at a position off centre with a normally ineffective stop member 281 which can be projected into the path of the articles to turn them about a vertical axis through any angle up to a right angle. The member 281 is connected to the plunger of a solenoid 280 and is normally held by a spring below the tops of the conveyer rollers 275. When the solenoid is energized, the member 281 is projected sufficiently to stop the articles. As each article passes on to the conveyer, it closes a switch LS-16, Fig. 2, and effects the energization of a solenoid 282 and in consequence the projection of its plunger 283. A pawl 285 on the plunger engages a ratchet wheel 286 mounted on a shaft 287. A sprocket 288 fast on this shaft is connected to a sprocket 289 fast on a parallel shaft 290 by an endless chain 291 which has a series of lugs 292 mounted on it. As each lug passes a normally-open switch LS-17, it closes it and the solenoid 280 is energized to project the plunger 281. Since the lugs can be disposed on the chain as desired, the stop can be projected to act on any predetermined number of articles and then withdrawn to allow the next series to pass without interference.
