Articles 4 conveyed by a pair of spaced endless belts 1, 2 become tilted when in abutment with a stop 8 and thereby engage a surface 5, situated between the belts and at a level just below that of the belts, to reduce the loading on the belts. A counting device (not shown) may control the stop to release the latter after a predetermined number of articles have been stopped.
