Abstract

Bottles on a conveyer 11 back up against a leading bottle held by a stationary star-wheel 23 until a predetermined number of bottles has collected, the last of which operates a switch (43), (Figs. 3 and 5, not shown). This releases a stop 31 engaging a projection 30 on a gear 27 meshing with the star-wheel and the predetermined number of bottles are permitted to flow out on to a delivery conveyer (38). The retraction of the stop 31 operates a switch 54 which results in immediate re-projection of the stop 31. Thus the gear 27 is stopped after one whole revolution. Three conveyers 11 are disposed in parallel, each with an associated star-wheel 24 and each serving the conveyer (38). A switch (58a) on the conveyer (38) ensures that none of the star-wheels permits a further delivery until all the previous bottles have got away on the conveyer (38). An arrangement of switches (53), (54) and (55), ensures that the gates respective to the three conveyers are operable with a predetermined precedence.
