Abstract

683,699. Endless overhead conveyers. NEW CONVEYOR CO., Ltd. Nov. 15, 1950. [Nov. 21, 1949] No. 29699/49. Class 78 (i). In a conveyer comprising a carrier b movable by an endless chain or the like d along an overhead track a and provided with a tilting tray c which is tilted at a predetermined position along the track, the tilting means on the carrier is controlled by a tappet on an endless chain mounted within a housing e on the carrier and moved-step-by-step by plunger n operated e.g. by racks u disposed at intervals along the track. The tappet-carrying chain h is mounted in zigzag fashion on sprockets g one of which has a ratchet wheel and a hand-wheel (not shown) secured to it such that by rotation of the handwheel the tappet 17 can be set back a desired distance from contact with a pivoted plate 18. The chain is moved step-by-step as the carrier moves along the track by the rack-operated plunger through a pair of cranks m, q on a shaft k, crank q carrying a pawl r engaging the ratchet wheel j. The plunder and pawl are returned by a spring p acting on a further crank on shalt k. A further crank v on shaft k has a roller w for engagernent with a notch x in a lever y pivoted to a lever z pivoted on a shaft 4 and coupled by a bowden cable 5 to the tilting mechanism for the tray c. A spring 3 acts on an arm 9 carrying a roller 11 which urges lever y out of the path of roller w into engagement with a roller 15 resiliently supported by a crank 6 connected by a link S to the arm 9. Crank 6 is mounted on the shaft 7 of the plate 18 whereby spring 3 causes plate 18 to be held against a stop closely adjacent the chain h passing around the sprocket g on shaft i. After the carrier has passed a predetermined number of ramps u tappet 17 moves plate 18 outwards so that roller 15 presses resiliently on lever y and moves the latter into position to be engaged by roller w as shown, so that the following ramp u causes lever y to be raised so as to operate, through lever z and cable 5, the tray tilting mechanism. The device may be put out of action by a cam 22 which is movable by hand into the path of a roller 25 carried by an arm 24 mounted on crank 6.
