Abstract

700,930. Conveyers. JOHNSON & JOHNSON. May 25, 1951 [June 1, 1950], No. 12345/51. Class 78 (1). A package discharge and stacking device comprises an endless conveyer provided with spaced means for supporting and conveying the packages vertically downwards, an ejector operated in timed sequence with the conveyer and arranged at a point in the downward run and stationary stop means with which the ejector co-operates, the arrangement being such that the packages are stopped by the stop means without interrupting operation of the conveyer, and are then ejected by the ejector. As shown, adhesive bandage units 11 are pushed along a guideway (not shown), by pushers 15 on a pair of endless chains 13 which are passed over a driving sprocket 14 and thereafter pass downwardly past the entrance to a magazine 12, the pushers 15 now acting as platforms for the bandage units which now rest against the chains. Guides 16 prevent the bandages from falling forwards. A pair of cam wheels 35 are located in register on a shaft 36 driven by a sprocket chain 37 from the sprocket 14 and the lobes 38 of the cams are so shaped that a, flat portion 40 arrives behind each bandage as it comes opposite the magazine entrance, where a stop 24 forming an extension of the magazine floor 22 prevents further downward movement of the bandage. The bandage is then pushed by the portion 42 of each cam lobe past a pawl 30 on the end of a spring 26 secured to a top plate 28 of the magazine. Finally a concentric portion 41 of each cam lobe straightens the delivered bandage into vertical position in the magazine.
