In conveyers of the slat-type having fingers 35 for discharging selected articles at selected stations, the fingers are mounted on the conveyer and are caused to move transversely to it as it moves longitudinally. Each finger is mounted on a plate 36 attached to a channel member 32 which is mounted slidably in a channel member 29 forming an element of the carrying surface of the conveyer. Each channel 29 is bolted to a U-shaped stirrup 28 secured to and extending from alternate links 19 of the conveyer chain 17. Each finger. extends upwards through the gap between adjacent channels 29. A roller 37 is movable vertically on a shaft 38 depending from each plate 36 and is retained in the upper position by a finger 45. When a push is imparted to the channel 32 by the movement of the core 46 of a solenoid 47, the roller 37 drops to a position in which it will engage the cam rail 39. This causes a succession of fingers to move across the conveyer to discharge an article. The solenoid 47 may be controlled automatically or manually. On the return rim each roller returns to the position in which it is retained by the finger and each channel 32 is returned to initial position by engagement with a cam rail 42.
