Abstract

756,593. Hasp locks. FASSBENDER & EVANS, Ltd. Dec. 24, 1954 [March 2, 1954], No. 6118/54. Class 44. A lock for a handbag, portable case or the like comprises a casing 1 which is adapted to be fixed to one side of the bag or case and a hasp 7 adapted to be hinged to the other side of the bag or case, the hasp being provided with a lug 6 (not shown) adapted to snap into engagement with a spring-loaded retainer in the casing 1 and being formed with an integral transverse proud rib 17 for engagement by the fingers for drawing the hasp 7 into looking relationship with the casing 1. The hasp 7 is pivoted to an anchorage plate 12 which is adapted to be fixed by rivets or other suitable means to the bag or case and the plate 12 has'an upwardly inclined flange 13 formed at its upper edge with a barrel 14, a pivot pin 16 being passed through the barrel 14 and two lugs 15 on the hasp. The barrel 14 contains a torsion spring having one end engaging the hasp to urge it to its locking position. At its free end the hasp has a flange 10 which carries the lug 6 for engagement by the lock retainer and the flange 10 is adapted to fit over a flange 2 integral with the casing 1 so that its upper surface is substantially flush with the upper surface of the casing 1. The locking mechanism is carried in a tray 4 underneath the casing 1 and the retainer for the lug 6 is actuated by a knob 8 on the top of the casing. A symmetrically arranged ornamental knob 9 is also provided on the top of the casing. The hasp 7 is bowed as indicated at 18 to enable the bowed part to clear the usual frame in the mouth of the bag or case. More than one retainer and more than one lug 6 may be provided.
