Abstract
1,092,060. Door furniture. JOSEPH GILLOTT & SONS Ltd. June 16, 1966 [Sept. 7, 1965], No. 38093/65. Heading E2A. A door pull device comprises an open frame which is adapted to be secured to a door over a key operated latch or lock, the frame carrying a flap 2 which forms a front cover plate and finger grip and which is pivotally mounted so as to open outwardly to give access, through the frame, to the key aperture of the underlying latch or lock, and wherein spring means 18 is provided to bias the flap into a closed position. The flap is provided at its upper part with trunnions (not shown) which engage bearing recesses (not shown) formed in the interior faces of the frame side walls 7, the recesses being in the form of slots which are open at the rear but closed at the front, the trunnions being retained in place by a bar 3 which is sprung in place past shallow lips (not shown) provided by the frame, alternatively the bar is secured in place by adhesive. The spring 18 is a block spring and is fitted in front of the bar 3 between the bar and the trunnions; its middle portion bears on a shallow lug 19 at the middle of the top edge of the flap 2 to retain the flap in the closed position. When the flap is fully raised the lug 19 is just below or is level with the axis of the flap so that the spring acts upon the flap in order to hold it open. The lower end portion 12 of the flap is turned outwardly and the flap is provided with a series of horizontal ribs 13 formed on the interior surface for use in handling. The frame is provided with apertured bosses 8 for receiving fixing screws to enable it to be fixed to the outside of the door over the usual escutcheon plate of a night latch.
