1,090,530. Pedal-operable door-opening devices for cabinets; latch fastenings. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMPSON HOUSTON - HOTOHKISS BRANDT. Oct. 13, 1966 [Oct. 14, 1965], No. 45748/66. Headings E2A and E2M. A pedal-operable door-opening device for a refrigerator or other cabinet comprises a single piece of plastics material, preferably of the polypropylene type, having a fixed part 8 which is attached to bracket 3 on door frame 1 by screws 4 and tongues 6 on the bracket engaging with grooves 9 on the inside of fixed part 8, a pedal part 12 connected to fixed part 8 by waisted portion 15, and a lug part 13 adapted to open the door or a projection thereon when the pedal is depressed. A spring (17, Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) is provided underneath parts 7 and 8 to restore the pedal when the foot is lifted off it. Fixed part 8 includes a latching surface 10 see Fig. 2, which latches under a catching surface 11 of bracket 3 in such a manner that fixed part 8 is not displaced when the pedal is operated. The lug may either be adapted to operate on a boss 24 carried on the door, or on the door itself, or on a boss on a vertical edge of the door (Fig. 5, not shown). The pedal 12 may be protected against wear by a metal cap or insert 14 or by a rectangle of hard-wearing adhesive material stuck on the pedal.
