Abstract

1,166,952. Door opening device. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. 14 Dec., 1967 [26 Jan., 1967], No. 3881/67. Heading E2M. A handle or pedal operable device for opening a catch-retained door of a refrigerator or other cabinet comprises a single piece of plastics material (e.g. polypropylene), 7, having a one-piece bell-crank lever, one arm, 8, of which is constructed and arranged to abut the inside lower surface of the door, 3, of the refrigerator cabinet, 1, whilst the other arm, 9, constitutes a depressible handle or foot pedal. At the fulchrum of the bell-crank and connected to it by a resilient portion 12 of reduced thickness, there is an integral extension member 10 which two limbs perpendicular to each other, one limb 13 fitting against the upright face of the door jamb 6, and the other limb 14 engaging the under surface of the jamb. The securing screws 11, or rivets, or press lugs or studs 15 (Fig. 5, not shown) can be positioned at the lower front surface of the door jamb as shown, or at the underside of the door jamb (Fig. 4, not shown), or they can be used at bothsurfaces. In Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) the integral extension member 10 is a single limb. In Fig. 1, it extends parallel to arm 8 and is secured to the upright face of the door jamb. In Fig. 2, it is co-planar with the arm 9, and is secured to the, underside of the door jamb.
