Abstract

1408313 Latch mechanism control assembly GENERAL MOTORS LTD 8 Nov 1973 [9 Nov 1972] 51673/72 Heading E2A A latch mechanism control assembly is made of synthetic plastics material and comprises a mounting block 12 having an aperture 22, Fig 2, therethrough to receive a control rod 32, for a latch mechanism, an operating lever 14 is hinged at 26, Fig 4, to one side of the mounting block 12 and having a protrusion 28, Fig 2, which is connectable to a looped end 30 of the control rod 32 so that arcuate movement of the operating lever 14 can move the control rod 32 against the bias of a spring 34, Fig 3, mounted thereon and operate the latch mechanism, and an escutcheon 16 which surrounds and partially shrouds the mounting block 12 and said operating lever 14. The escutcheon is hinged at 24, Fig 4, to the mounting block 12. The block 12 may have mounting holes 18, 20, Fig 1, so that it may be secured by screws (not shown) to an inner panel 44, Fig 3, of a vehicle door. The escutcheon 16 is in contact with the peripheral portion of the door trim surrounding an aperture 46 in the door trim, the latter having the control assembly 10 located therein. In the engaged position of the latch mechanism, the operating lever 14 occupies the postion shown in Fig 3, with the protrusion 28 adjacent the mounting block 12. To disengage the latch mechanism, the free end 40 of the lever 14 is pulled outwards from the plane of the escutcheon 16 into the position shown by the dotted lines in Fig 3. The protrusion 28 of lever 14 moves to the position shown dotted so that the control rod 32 can disengage the latch mechanism connected thereto. Release of the lever 14 allows the spring 34 to return the rod 32 and lever 14 to their original positions.
