Abstract

Class 44 A locking gear for a door comprises a movable locking member 10 and a stationary retainer member 18 adapted to be mounted on the door and door frame respectively or vice versa, the retainer member having an attachment base portion 20 for. securing to the door or door frame. an overlying arm 22 spaced from the base portion to provide therebetween an opening 23 for receiving the locking member to lock the door to the frame, a housing 24 on the base portion containing an electric switch 25, an operating member 28 pivotally mounted on the retainer member so as to be movable across the opening ina manner having a component of movement in a direction perpendicular or transverse to the direction of movement of the locking member when moving into or out of the opening, the operating member being arranged to be operated by the locking member when the locking member is disposed in the opening and the locking member, operating member and switch being so relatively arranged that when the locking member is moved from its extreme position of locking engagement with the retainer member, the operating member moves across the opening through at least half of its travel between its initial position and its operated position in the opening before causing operation of the switch. The switch is a micro-switch and the operating member 28 which is urged to its switch operating position by a spring 30 operates it either by directly engaging its plunger 32 or through a resilient tongue 27. The movement of the operating member before the switch is operated allows for wear. The locking member 10 is either pivotally or slidably mounted and in the latter case the arm 22 can be joined to the base portion at both ends. When the door is the emergency door of a vehicle the switch is arranged to operate an audible or visual alarm when operated, to indicate that the door is not fastened. A plurality of locking members can be linked together for operation, each engaging a separate retainer one or more of which have switches 25. Specification 419,917 [Group XXXVII] is referred to.
