Abstract

1,226,372. Locks. WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd. 4 March, 1969 [6 March, 1968], No. 10825/68. Heading E2A. An external door-latch operating handle for vehicles of "letter-box" type consists of a hollow body 1 which fits into an aperture in the door panel (not shown) and a pivoted flap 7 which operates the mechanism and which serves to close the hole 8 in the top of the body through which it projects. The flap has a sealing lip 27 and is preferably of plastics for lightness to avoid spontaneous opening in emergency situations. The flap is of sinuous form, having a recess 9 for receiving operating fingers by which the flap is pushed to operate the latch mechanism through nylon stud 20, or to draw the door closed. In Fig. 4, the lever 19 carrying the stud 20 pivots about the same axis 12 as the flap, but in the form shown in Fig. 5, this lever, 19a is carried on a separate pivot 23, motion being transmitted through a slot 24 and roller 26.
