Abstract
1,246,336. Releasable fastenings. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 17 Dec., 1968 [21 Dec., 1967], No. 59928/68. Headings E2A and E2B. A fastening for the lid 10 of a tape-reel container 12 comprises 3 latching fingers 24 engaging a keeper 20 and normally held in engagement by a detent 70. When button 56 is depressed against the inner spring (84), the head of detent 70 passes below the latch fingers, allowing them to rise out of keeper 20 to release the lid. In the fastened position, Fig. 3, the button 56 is held visibly 'up' by the spring (84) acting on a collar 76 resting on the top of keeper housing sleeve 16, but when the lid is free, Fig. 2, this collar is pressed down by a conical spring 82 to hold the detent and the bottom in the 'down' position. In a modification, the latching fingers act inwardly on to a central pin.
