Abstract

Aqueous treatment of artificial silk thread whilst it is advancing in helical turns round a pair of skew rollers is effected by applying the liquid to the surface of one of the rollers, and sraping the liquid from the surface of such roller close to the place where the turns of thread leave the roller so that liquid accumulates and flows on to the thread. As shown in Fig. 1, freshly spun viscose thread 4 passes round skew rollers 6, 8, first round portions 5, 7 of reduced diameter, then round centre portions without any liquid treatment to allow regeneration to continue. The thread is then led by thread guide 11 on to portions of 10, 12 greater diameter whereon it is subject to treatment with water from pipe 16, the water being removed by scraper 17 which hangs from supporting rod 24, (see also Fig. 2), the thread then being dried by heated roller 19. Water removed by the scraper flows on to the threads as they leave the bottom roller and excess water is collected in pan 18. The scraper 17 is preferably made of flexible material, e.g. rubber or polyethylene. Water may be played on to the roller from pipe 23, Fig. 2, instead of from pipe 16. Water removed by the scraper flows on to the threads as they leave the bottom roller and excess water is collected in pan 18. The scraper 17 is preferably made of flexible material, e.g. rubber or polyethylene. Water may be played on to the roller from pipe 23, Fig. 2, instead of from pipe 16.
