Abstract

A thread is conducted initially along a pair of rotating mutually inclined rollers in a succession of helical loops by attaching the thread to an endless belt of flexible material, e.g. rubber or wet string, maintained permanently in position near the front ends of the rollers by means of grooves or flanges, allowing a wrap to be built up of a plurality of loops of the thread, then pushing the wrap from the grooves or over the flanges, detaching it from the belt and allowing it to traverse the rollers carrying the thread with it and, at the end of the traverse, severing the wrap and removing it from the rollers, and passing the thread to a collecting device or other apparatus.
