Abstract
<PICT:0822940/IV (a)/1> A wet-spinning bath is fitted with a spinning tube which discharges into a tray having a double bottom. As shown, a spinning bath 1 contains a spinning tube 2, which may be of uniform diameter, or may be of the type illustrated. Spinning solution enters through the pipe 8 and spinneret 7. The further end of the spinning tube is connected in liquid-tight but flexible manner to the tray 9 which has a double bottom 10. The upper wall of the double bottom is provided with an outlet which may consist of a series of perforations distributed over the wall surface (11) or may be one or more slots extending lengthwise along the tray, and said upper wall may be bent upwards cylindrically towards the edge of the overflow 16 which may extend across the width of the tray. Preferably said tray width (i.e. dimension at right angles to plane of the Figure) is 1.3 times the diameter of the discharge end of the spinning tube. A discharge opening 12 connects the lower wall of of the double bottom 10 with a discharge tube 13, having a conical end 14 which fits the spinning bath discharge pipe 15. 19 is a fork supporting the spinning tube. On a support 17 fixed to the tray 9, a pair of thread guide rollers 18 is freely rotatably mounted near the overflow. In operation, spinning bath liquid is supplied through pipe 20 at such a rate that the liquid level in tray 9 is a little higher than the upper edge of the overflow 16, so that the overflow just operates. Owing to this difference in levels the bath liquid is propelled through the spinning tube, while the position of the guide rollers is such that the thread leaves the tray near the overflow, and so only changes its direction at a point where the liquid is more or less static. The first thread guide roller may alternatively be arranged above the bath liquid, so that the thread passes through the spinning bath liquid entirely in a straight line. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 784,896.
