Abstract

1438086 Washing fabrics SIR JAMES FARMER NORTON & CO Ltd 27 March 1975 [9 April 1974] 15765/74 Heading D1L In the washing of fabrics by passage of liquid theretrough whilst supported on a perforated drum, the liquid is drawn through the drum by a rotating screw disposed axially therein, the pitch and/or depth of the screw increasing towards the open end of the drum. As shown, heated washing liquid contained within tank 11 is drawn through the cylindrical surface of the drum by screw 16 as fabric (28) is passed around the drum by rollers (29) and (30) [Fig. 1 (not shown)]. The screw is oppositely pitched on either side of the centre, the pitch P of the screw increasing towards the ends. The depth of the screw may also increase by reducing the diameter of the screw body 17. The washing liquid is removed from the fabric by squeezer roller 37 as the fabric passes over roller 30.
